“As newborn babies, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” (1 Peter 2:2)
Salvation is a birth into a growing life. When you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you are born into the family of God. Therefore, you are expected to keep growing spiritually.
So, it is not enough to be born again and belong to the family of God, you must grow spiritually. Growth means continuous positive changes!
When a child is born, he does not remain at the baby stage for ever. Every child is expected to keep growing, and pass from the stage of childhood to adulthood. This explains why the Bible says:
“When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” (1 Corinthians 13:11)
As a father, I am aware that no parent takes pride in a child that does not grow. The desire and joy of every parent is to see their children grow.
I have watched with amazement, and seen all our biological children grow from babyhood to adulthood! They are still growing! This gives me a great pleasure and a sense of gratitude to God.
I want you to know that as it is in the natural, so it is in the spiritual. If growth is required in the natural, it is even required more in the spiritual.
At every stage of development, however, every child requires quality food for healthy growth.
In the same vein, when you are born again and become a member of God’s family, you require quality spiritual food so you can grow spiritually. This is what the scripture in 1 Peter 2:2 explains.
“What is this spiritual food?,” you may ask. It is the Word of God! God’s Word, the Bible, is the food of the spirit that helps you grow after salvation.
A new born baby starts with milk and water, later he graduates to solid foods and with time he starts to crack bones. The milk, the meat and the bone of spiritual development that you need are found in the Word of God, the Bible.
For you to grow spiritually, you cannot do without the Word of God, the Bible! Your Christian growth and maturity is absolutely dependent on your intake and practice of it!
I want you to know that the Word of God, the Bible, is a personal message to you from God Almighty Himself! God’s Word is alive (John 6:63) and through it, God reveals Himself to you.
God is so mindful of you that He sends you His Word for your day-to-day living.
Please be aware that the Bible is not just a set of rules! No! Rather, it is a practical reference Book, meant to enable you live a successful Christian life.
Study it, read it, commit it to heart, meditate upon it and act on it accordingly! Don’t just religiously give it a place of honour on your book shelf! It is for living!
But, why do I have to study the Bible and give it such a prominent place in my life, especially considering my daily busy schedule?
I shall be explaining that in the next write up.
Shalom!
