OVERCOMING ANXIETY – WHAT IS ANXIETY?

Read Psalms 39:3 from your Bible

Anxiety is a spirit sent from hell to torment and confuse believers. It is a troubled feeling in the mind, caused by fears and uncertainty about the future, real or imagined. Anything that causes fear is an enemy of faith. Fear is sent to attack and kill the very thing that makes the just man live (Habakkuk 2:4).

The fertile ground for anxiety is the mind. If the enemy can introduce anxious feelings into the mind, he has succeeded in paralyzing initiatives.

Though anxiety takes its root in the mind, the mind can be girded-up to prevent it from creeping in (1 Peter 1:13). The mind is the decision-making centre of a man. It is where he decides whether to accommodate fear or reject it. It is also where the will is found, such that a man can decide not to be troubled by bad news and then go ahead to implement that decision.

You have all it takes to deal a deadly blow on anxiety. It would be unfair of God to tell you to live an anxiety-free life if it were impossible. However, having decreed it, it then means that not only is it possible, but it is possible to you. You have what it takes to overcome anxiety!

God has commanded that we should “Be careful for nothing … ” (Philippians 4:6). If you see this as a command from a loving heavenly Father and expressly obey it, the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will be yours.

It, therefore, follows that anytime you give room to anxiety, you are disobeying the Lord. No wonder, peace eludes you at such a time and a feeling of hopelessness sets in. No matter how terrible a situation may appear, apply your heart to God’s Word. Fortunately, no commandment is designed to break you, but rather to make you.

It will, however, be funny for anyone plagued with anxiety to assume that like red blood cells flow through the veins of every man, that anxiety is supposed to be a part of all men. No! Some people have accepted God’s Word as the final authority, and are following its prescriptions and as such are 100 per-cent anxiety-free.

I must, however, state that anxiety-free living is only for believers in Jesus Christ.

In my next write-up I will be discussing the Root Causes Of Anxiety.

Shalom!
