The reason many are frustrated in church is because they have not come to understand the system or ways of grasping the truth. Apostle John said, I was in the spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard… (Rev. 1:10).
That means when we are not in the Spirit, we cannot appreciate any truth of Scriptures. We have to be in the Spirit to appreciate the truth being communicated to us.
After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. (Revelation 4:1-2)
We can’t find God with our heads; we can only find God with our hearts.
The Word of God in 1 Corinthians 2:11-13 says:
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
Note that in verse 12, it says, But we have not received the spirit of this world, but the spirit which is of God. Note also that the word “Spirit” is written in small letter “s”. That means it is by our spirit (the spirit of man) that we are able to know the things that are freely given to us of God!
The above scripture clearly helps us appreciate the fact that we can only grasp spiritual things by engaging our spirit-man. This is because no man knows the things of a man except the spirit of man that is in him. It is with our spirit that we can grasp the things that are freely given to us of God, because the Holy Spirit can only communicate with our spirit, not with our soul. For the spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit. that we are the children of God (Romans 8:16). So, the Spirit of God is always relating, interacting, and communicating with our spirit.
This illustration in Proverbs 20:27 will help us understand this better.
The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord. Now, in Luke 15:8-9, Jesus said,
…what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?
And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.
To find her missing piece of silver, she first had to light a candle, and then she started searching through the pages of Scriptures to find what was missing. We can’t find anything missing in a dark room without light; and our spirit-man is the candle of the Lord. The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord with which we search to find whatever things are missing. Without engaging our spirit, our search will be endless.
With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early… (Isaiah 26:9)
The Bible says, And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:13). The spirit and the heart mean the same thing in the New Testament.
We can’t hear from heaven, if we are not in the spirit; and faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. If we cannot hear, we cannot believe, and since we can’t believe, we cannot see, understand, and appreciate those things that are freely given to us in Scriptures.
So, it’s time to engage our spirit-man in our search. It’s not enough to be studious; it’s much more important to ensure we are in the spirit when searching for the truth. When the spirit-man is able to grasp the truth of Scriptures, then all our needs will be met. The depth of our spiritual understanding is what determines the dimension of manifestation we can command.
