- Fasting for Alignment, Not Manipulation: The greatest secret of fasting is realizing that it is a tool for alignment. You do not fast to force God to do your bidding; you fast to crucify the fleshly desires that block your ability to hear His instructions. When the flesh is silenced, your spirit becomes the dominant voice, allowing you to align your will with the pre-determined counsel of heaven.
Power is found in submission. When you fast, you are voluntarily lowering your soul to elevate your spirit. This alignment creates a straight path for the power of God to flow through you. In the realm of the spirit, authority is given to those who are under authority. Fasting proves to the heavens that you are under the authority of the Spirit and not your stomach.
But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting. Psalm 35:13
Do This: Begin your fast by explicitly telling God: I am not here to change Your mind, but to align my heart with Yours.
- The Power of Selective Feeding: What you look at during a fast is just as important as what you do not eat. Fasting is a “gate” ministry. If you close your mouth to food but keep your eyes open to worldly entertainment and social media, you are starving your body but still poisoning your soul. Power is unlocked when you starve the carnal and feast on the eternal simultaneously.
Your spiritual eyes are the lamps of your body. During a fast, your sensitivity increases, making you more susceptible to both light and darkness. To unlock power, you must create a sanctuary of the senses. When you guard your gates, the Holy Spirit fills the space with “hidden manna” revelation knowledge that provides the strategy for your next season.
The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. Matthew 6:22
Do This: Delete or silence all entertainment apps during your fasting period and replace that time with scripture or worship.
- Sacrifice and the Altar of Alms: A fast that does not touch your pocket rarely touches the heavens. Scriptural fasting is inextricably linked to the act of giving to those in need. When you take the resources you would have spent on yourself and use them to bless others, you are building an altar of sacrifice that speaks in the spirit realm long after the fast is over.
Giving is the “propellant” of fasting. In Isaiah, God defines the chosen fast as one that involves loosening bonds and feeding the hungry. When you act in mercy, your “light breaks forth like the morning.” Power is often the byproduct of a heart that has been softened by compassion. You cannot carry the power of God if you do not carry the heart of God for the poor.
Is not this the fast that I have chosen? … Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? Isaiah 58:6-7
Do This: Take the money you saved on meals during your fast and give it to someone in need or a local ministry.
- The Mystery of Night Intercession: There is a specific frequency of power available when you fast through the watches of the night. While the world sleeps, the atmosphere is thin, and the “Believers” who remains awake in prayer and fasting taps into a dimension of government that is unavailable during the noisy hours of the day.
Night is the season of dreams and divine visitations. When you combine the emptiness of fasting with the stillness of the night, you become a lightning rod for prophetic encounters. This is where “secrets” are revealed. Many of the greatest breakthroughs in scripture happened when men wrestled with God in the dark hours.
And he continued praying to God all night. Luke 6:12
Do This: Choose one night during your fast to stay awake until at least 3:00 AM, specifically asking God for a “midnight revelation” concerning your calling.
5. Identifying the Root of the Battle: Fasting is the spiritual “ultrasound” that reveals hidden idols. When you fast, you will notice that you become more irritable or anxious. Do not ignore these emotions; they are signs of the “strongmen” that have been ruling your soul. Power is unlocked when you identify and repent of these roots.
You cannot cast out what you have not identified. Fasting brings the “demons of the soul”—pride, lust, and anger to the surface so they can be dealt with at the foot of the cross. Real power is not just casting out external spirits, but having internal dominion over your own appetites. A man who rules his spirit is more powerful than one who takes a city.
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. Proverbs 16:32
Do This: When you feel an “outburst” or a negative emotion during your fast, stop and pray: Lord, what is the root of this, and I lay it at Your feet.
- The Command of Scriptural Declaration: The power of a fast is released through your mouth. Jesus did not just fast; He answered the enemy with “It is written.” During a fast, your words carry a higher spiritual weight. You must use this time to decree the Word over your life, your family, and your nation.
Your tongue is the rudder of your destiny. During a fast, because your flesh is weakened, your spoken words are more “spirit-charged.” This is the time to make legal declarations in the spirit. When you speak the Word while fasting, it is like a hammer that breaks the rock into pieces. You are legislating from a position of spiritual hunger.
It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4
Do This: Write out seven scriptures that cover your current needs and declare them out loud three times a day during your fast.
- Maintaining the Secret Chamber: The final secret to unlocking power through fasting is the law of secrecy. When you advertise your fast to gain the sympathy or admiration of men, you have already received your reward. The power that “rewards openly” is only generated in the place that is “done in secret.”
Spiritual power is a currency of the secret place. The more you “leak” the details of your sacrifice to others, the more pressure you lose in the spirit. To carry a heavy mantle, you must be able to carry a secret. God entrusts His deepest mysteries to those who do not seek the applause of men. When your fast is a private covenant between you and God, the public manifestation of power is inevitable.
But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast… and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly. Matthew 6:17-18
Do This: Do not tell anyone you are fasting unless it is necessary for logistics. Keep a joyful countenance and let your results speak for themselves.
shalom!
