A curse can be put in a simpler way for clearer understanding, to be the physical manifestation of a negative pronouncement made by an aggrieved or offended person against the offender, with the intention to harm or negatively affect the offender.
A curse is the product of anger from an aggrieved person (James 1:20). It is aimed at seeking revenge or justice. Its final result is always evil, tragedy, misfortune, etc. It makes the offender a victim. A victim is one subjected to oppression and suffering.
Again, a curse could be the negative consequences of deliberate disobedience of God’s Word (Eccl. 10:8-10).
When Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, they were cursed (Gen. 3:14-19). Also, when Cain killed Abel, his brother, God cursed him (Gen. 11). In Proverbs 3:33a, the Bible States that “The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked”.
In Malachi, 3:8-11, the Lord said: “…ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even the whole nation… “
Curses operate on certain legal grounds, and that means there must be a reason why the curses operate.
Proverbs 26:2 says: “As a bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come. “
If there is no justified reason for a curse to operate, no matter who pronounces the curse, it will not come to pass.
In my next write-ups, I will be discussing Reasons For Curses.
