Read Matthew 6:25 from your Bible
Anxiety cannot step in except there is an opening.Worries over what to eat, what to drink and what to wear are openings for anxiety to step in. Even though what to eat, drink and wear are basic needs which psychologists refer to as primary needs, this not withstanding, they must never be allowed to cause anxiety or make one question the faithfulness of God.
God has shown you the right priority in Matthew 6:33: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you, which must be given its proper place, because 1 Corinthians 6:13 says:
“Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them.”
Man was not made for food, but food for man. Therefore, food must not be given undue emphasis. There is no future for anyone who minds food more than he minds the expansion of God’s kingdom. The strongest reason tithe defaulters have for not paying their tithe is that 100 percent of their income is barely sufficient to meet their needs, let alone when 10 percent is removed from it.
God, who is not an author of confusion, knows our needs and has provided a way of escape for us from scarcity. Therefore, God’s judgment is certain upon all that do not pay their tithes (Haggai 1:6-7).
Life definitely is more important than food and the body than raiment. Contentment will free you from anxiety. Often, it is not that there is not what to eat, drink or wear at all, it is that there is a desire to have more than what is presently available. That desire is what often leads to anxiety.
Read 1 Timothy 6:6-8 from your Bible
Learning to be content with what you have, your position and who you are will save you from a life of anxiety. Bishop David Oyedepo, often says, “Life is in phases and men are in sizes.” This is very true! You must learn to accept the phase-by-phase uplifting grace of God upon your life. Don’t seek to be like other people. Stop struggling to acquire more possessions, so that anxiety does not find a home in your heart.
The unemployed become bedfellows with anxiety, when their pre-occupation is their lack of job. The one who is struggling to stand spiritually, finds that anxiety overtakes him any time he compares himself with someone else. Financial lack also constitutes a source of anxiety. But in each of these instances, anxiety is not the answer.
If you make up your mind to take heed to the injunctions of God in His Word, you will find that it is very easy to live triumphantly.
Shalom!
