In this part of the world, many people believe in reincarnation. Some parents would consult a witch doctor at the birth of their babies to foretell them which of their dead parents, grandparents, uncles or aunts, etc ., has reincarnated in their babies. Little ritual sacrifices or libations are performed to the ancestral spirits to acknowledge their presence in that child.
In Yoruba land (West of Nigeria), names such as Iyabo is given to a baby girl child (meaning mother has come back). If a boy, Babatunde (father has come back) is given to the baby. In the Eastern part of Nigeria (Igbo), names such as Nna-nna, Nne-nna, are given to such children. In Bini (Mid-West of Nigeria), Iye is given.
The people bearing these types of names need deliverance from the influences of ancestral spirits. Let me emphatically say here that there is nothing like reincarnation as far as God is concerned. It is one of the devil’s strategies to get more souls bound for hell. (Hebrews 9:27)
For example, A sister attained the age of marriage but discovered she wasn’t interested in doing so. It got to the extent that whenever she started any relationship, she broke it off when it was getting serious towards marriage. She sought solution to this problem and could not lay hands on anything. However, she knew that what was happening to her was out of the ordinary.
It was a hard case to handle, because there was no information I could lay hands on during deliverance ministration. After about 40 minutes of ministration without any breakthrough, the Holy Ghost told me to break the ancestral covenant over her. I did so and she fell into coma for about 20 minutes. When she became conscious, she confided in me that she was told that her maternal aunt reincarnated in her. Before that woman died, she had vowed never to marry on earth when she came back (reincarnation), because of what she went through in her marriage while alive.
Her parents acknowledged the presence of that spirit in their daughter, hence she found it difficult to marry because that spirit was there to fulfill the late, aunt’s vow.
I want you to know that it was a spirit that spoke through her when she was dying and that was the spirit that entered her when she was born. Two months later she got engaged. Praise God!
Also, some spirits are transmitted along the family line either from father to son or daughter, or from mother to son or daughter. This is as a result of promises made by parents to dedicate every member of their family to the family deity. Demons do not operate if there are no legal grounds for them. In this kind of family, demons have the right to operate until they are told not to, by breaking their legal grounds.
If you discovered that ancestral/familiar spirits have a legal ground over you, stand on Isaiah 49:24-26, Colossians 1:13-14, 2:14-15 and break it, engaging the three witnesses, the Spirit, the Water, and the Blood, according to 1 John 5:8, or go for deliverance.
