“Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
For which things sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience.” (Col. 3:5-6)
To mortify means to destroy.
You can destroy fornication, you can destroy lasciviousness, you can destroy envy and all the likes of it.
They that are in the flesh cannot please God, but through the Spirit we can mortify the deeds of the flesh; so we can live.
Romans 8:13 says:
“For if we live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.”
I’d like you to be violent. There’s no gentleman at the warfront! It’s a survival of the fittest. The other side has no mercy. No! The word is, “See him first and get him down”.
In Psalms 119:9, the Bible says:
“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.”
That is, you can use what God is saying to mortify the deeds of the flesh.
