READ GENESIS 32:24-29
Here we are told that Jacob was left alone. A time will come in your life when you will be left alone to wrestle. A time will come when your father and mother may not be able to help you; they may even complain that they have their own problems.
Nothing happened to Jacob until he was alone with God. Some of us need to find time and get alone with God. During the course of his wrestling, God touched his long leg, with which he used to go about cheating people. After the duel, right from that day, God became the God of Jacob. Before then, God was not being addressed as the God of Jacob; even the very Jacob could not understand his identity. He was a confused and lost fellow, without any aim or direction, until he wrestled one day with God, and his destiny changed for the better.
Many, like Jacob, have abandoned their project of prosperity and might have allowed evil to build a house inside them, and many have also allowed infiltration of agents in their homes.
A brother was given the custody of a small girl as an “extra” after he wed his wife in accordance with the tradition. But the sad story was that this small girl almost killed the bride. Every night the wife would be feeling that somebody was walking about on her stomach until the girl confessed one day that twenty-one of her satanic colleagues were walking on her stomach.
So, when they went for counseling, they said they wanted to ‘play fîne Christians’: they wanted to be merciful to the girl that she would have to go for deliverance and then continue to stay with them. Then their attention was brought to her (the wife) figure in the photograph she took during the wedding three months earlier and to her present figure as at that time. It was apparent she looked about twenty years older than before she married three months earlier, and they had to be counseled to send the girl away immediately.
We must go beyond just knowing people through facial knowledge. We must know them for who they are. For example, during an employment process, the certificate is one of the factors in knowing the would-be employee after the fiesh, but when you go and pray about him, it is then you will be able to know him after the spirit for who he is. It is possible for the Lord to tell an employer after prayer to employ a ‘Muslim’. It is possible for God to reveal to you concerning a Mr. Joseph, who comes unto you for employment, that he is a ticklish Joseph.
An housekeeper sometimes fell down screaming, and everybody was running helter-skelter to assist her, but she kept on saying, “Carry me to the village; carry me to the village.” Eventually they yielded to her request and got her transferred to the village. What was the implication? She
devised a trick to pass information about what was going on with the people she was staying with to them in the village; thus, she completed her assignment.
There are so many people that when they gather money to start a project, they just discover that all of a sudden, trouble erupts; a certain key figure in the project may die, or there may be a major breakdown in the vehicle or machinery, or people around them might be living in penury such that they make them dry financially.
A lot of people find themselves frustrated this way. But the truth is, God does not carry out any useless exercise; if God puts you here, there must be a purpose. God will not create you if He has no vacancy for you in His divine program, and His plan for your life is definite and personal. That is why you cannot use others’ parameters to measure your life’s program. God has a vision about your life, but then some people come to the world on deficit. So, there is a need for you to revisit your mother’s womb and come out again anew. No wonder the Bible says, “Whosoever is not born again cannot enter into the kingdom of God..”
Having been born in deficit, you need to go back into the womb of Jesus Christ and come out being born again; it is then you can become a new person. It is possible for you to change your destiny for the better if you determine to wrestle like Jacob. If it would take wrestling, take the bull by the horns and fight to win.
