- Certain Strongholds Cannot Be Broken
Matthew 17:21 KJV – Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
Jesus revealed that some spiritual battles require greater spiritual engagement. Not every challenge yields to casual effort. Certain strongholds persist because they must be confronted through focused prayer and fasting.
Fasting weakens the influence of the flesh while prayer strengthens spiritual authority. When these two work together, believers become more effective in spiritual warfare.
- Deep Spiritual Sensitivity Cannot Be Developed
Daniel 10:12 KJV – Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand.
Daniel’s fasting was connected to understanding. There are dimensions of spiritual perception that are often sharpened when believers separate themselves unto God through fasting and prayer.
Many people want revelation without consecration. Yet Scripture repeatedly shows that spiritual understanding increases when the heart becomes focused on God.
Child of God, fasting removes distractions and creates room for spiritual clarity.
- Lasting Victory Over Certain Fleshly Desires Cannot Be Maintained
Galatians 5:16 KJV – Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
The flesh constantly seeks control. Fasting is one of God’s tools for teaching the believer self-control and dependence upon the Holy Spirit.
Prayer feeds the spirit while fasting disciplines the flesh. Together, they help believers develop spiritual strength against habits, temptations, and unhealthy desires.
The goal is not starvation but spiritual alignment.
- Some Divine Assignments Cannot Be Entered Into Properly
Acts 13:2-3 KJV – As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
One of the most important missionary assignments in the New Testament was connected to prayer and fasting.
Before major assignments, God often calls His servants into seasons of consecration. Fasting helps prepare the heart for responsibility, direction, and spiritual stewardship.
Child of God, great assignments often require great preparation.
- Spiritual Revival Cannot Be Sustained
Joel 2:12 KJV – Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.
Throughout biblical history, revival was often accompanied by repentance, prayer, and fasting.
Revival is more than excitement. It is the restoration of God’s rule within hearts, families, churches, and nations. Such movements are sustained by people who seek God with seriousness and consistency.
A generation that neglects prayer and fasting will struggle to sustain spiritual fire.
- Certain Breakthroughs in Ministry Cannot Be Reached
Mark 1:35 KJV – And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Even Jesus consistently separated Himself for prayer. If the Son of God valued deep communion with the Father, no servant of God can afford to neglect it.
Ministry is not sustained merely by knowledge or gifting. It requires spiritual strength, wisdom, and divine guidance that are cultivated through prayer and consecration.
Public impact is often the result of private devotion.
- Intimacy with God Cannot Reach Its Full Depth
James 4:8 KJV – Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.
The highest purpose of fasting and prayer is not power, miracles, or breakthroughs. It is intimacy with God.
Many people seek God’s hand while neglecting His heart. Fasting and prayer create an environment where believers can pursue deeper fellowship with Him.
The greatest reward of the secret place is not what God gives; it is God Himself.
Child of God, when intimacy becomes your pursuit, every other blessing finds its proper place.
shalom!
