TYPES OF FASTING 4 – Partial Fast

This involves abstaining from certain types of food or drink, while still allowing yourself to eat or drink other things. For example, you might choose to only eat fruits and vegetables, or to abstain from meat or dairy products.

Daniel, as a Babylonian captive, refused to eat the king’s rich food, but chose to eat only vegetables and water. Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink (Daniel 1:12).

Also, during Daniel’s 21-day fast, he said, In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled (Daniel 10:2-3).

Some people observe partial fasts by eating much smaller portions of food than usual for a certain time and/or eating only a few simple foods. This kind of fast can be a good option for people who are new to fasting or who have health concerns that prevent them from abstaining completely from food and drink. Understand that the nature of this kind of fast does not negate its effect; it is still a powerful way to get answers from God.
