Supplication comes from the Latin verb ‘supplicare’, which means ‘to plead humbly.’ It is a form of prayer in which someone makes a humble petition or an entreaty to God. It means to ask or petition; the action of asking for something earnestly or humbly. The Bible states:
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 1 Timothy 2:1
It is written: …but in every thing by prayer and supplication… (Philippians 4:6). Supplication is more heartfelt than a cautious request for something, it requires desperation on the altar of prayer. You can supplicate for your needs or the needs of others. God is very much interested in meeting our desires, in accordance with His will. However, we must learn to ask to receive from Him. Though God knows your need, you are to ask Him so you can receive. Scripture says, Ask and it will be given you… For every one that asketh receiveth… (Matthew 7:7-8).
