This is praying in an unknown tongue. It is written, they shall speak with new tongues (Mark 16:17b). Tongues is the initial evidence of the infilling of the Holy Spirit in a believer (Acts 2:4). It is a heavenly language (Zephaniah 3:9). Just like every tribe is identified by the language they speak, when you speak in tongues, you speak mysteries that the devil doesn’t understand.
Praying in the Holy Ghost helps you to pray the will of God. Scripture says, Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God (Romans 8:26-27). You don’t pray amiss when praying in tongues. Even when you don’t understand what you are saying, you are hitting the right target. Your spirit does the praying with the help of the Holy Spirit.
As I conclude this write up, recognise that fasting, when combined with prayer, has tremendous effect. It is important to understand that our fasting does not change God or His Word; it enhances our spiritual sensitivity, among other benefits. When we deny our earthly appetite for time with God, our spiritual senses become more attuned to God’s presence and leading. We thereby experience heightened discernment, clarity and revelation.
Fasting and prayer go together. While prayer is the weapon for delivery of your desires, fasting reinforces your prayers. Fasting on its own delivers no effect; it is prayer that gives credence to your fast. Your fasting should give you more time for prayer, which is effective in its workings.
