Inquiry means to probe, ask questions and investigate. Prayer of inquiry means asking God sincere questions regarding any issue of concern and/or any situation of life. We have both a prayer-answering and question-answering God. The purpose of a prayer of inquiry is to get an answer or direction regarding an issues.
For instance, David inquired of the Lord regarding the situation he was confronted with, after the Philistines took the women and children of his people captive, and they were about to stone him. It is written, And David inquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all (1 Samuel 30:8). Every genuine question receives an answer from God.
The prayer of inquiry provokes the release of miracles, breakthroughs and deliverance, because it seeks the root cause of the issue and solutions or directions on how to gain liberty. In the face of adversity, you can always ask God for the way out.
Prayer of inquiry has to be backed up with God’s word, so you must listen and be ready to receive directions and instructions from God when making it. Though God might not speak to you audibly, He can speak through His word.
It is written: I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye (Psalm 32:8).
The prayer of inquiry is primarily one for direction, and is most vital to success in life. Divine guidance clearly brings man into partnership with God, terminating man’s limitations. Beware of making decisions in a hurry; instead always inquire from God and be obedient to His instructions.
