TYPES OF POVERTY 1 – Financial Poverty (Poverty of money)

Financial poverty is the type of poverty many people know about. Simply put, financial poverty is the inability to have money or capital to purchase the goods and services that you require to meet your needs.

A man who wakes up in the morning and has no legitimate job to earn a living is suffering from financial poverty. Inability to eat the normal food that your colleagues can afford is an evidence of financial poverty. Inability to provide for the financial needs of one’s home is an evidence of financial poverty.

A man who wakes up very early in the morning and runs out of the house because he has no money to give to the wife and children for the day’s feeding is suffering from financial poverty. Evidence of financial poverty is seen when children have to be withdrawn from school because the parents cannot afford to pay their school fees.

Financial poverty is responsible for cases of children’s labour, where children who ought to be in school are pushed to the street to be hawking wares for the family to eat. There was a sad case of a woman, who, following a successful delivery of a bouncing baby at a hospital, had to put the baby in a polythene bag, and ran out of the hospital after lying to the nurses, that she was going to the toilet, all because she could not afford to pay the hospital bills. One of the reasons this book was written is to help you overcome the powers behind financial poverty.

There are different types of poverty, other common ones include the following: Mental, Physical, Social, Achievement, Spiritual. In my subsequent write-ups I will be discussing on these.
